In response to the Architecture at Zero competition, an ideas competition where the main criteria is to design a building that is net-zero (produces as much energy on site that it uses), we designed a net-zero building that seamlessly integrates environmental performance with innovative form. The unorthodox shape of the structure was defined through meticulous environmental massing, optimizing solar exposure and natural ventilation. Overhangs on the south, east, and west facades were strategically designed to reduce heat gain, while terraces on the north side provide shaded outdoor spaces and enhance thermal comfort. Punctures throughout the building serve as light wells, flooding interior spaces with natural daylight while also improving cross-ventilation. This holistic approach ensures sustainability without compromising on functionality or aesthetics.
